Elizabeth Olsen says doing her own Marvel stunts was a ‘waste of everyone’s time’
The ‘Scarlet Witch’ actress finds it ‘ridiculous’ to do her own stunts.
Although some actors train long and hard to do their own stunts for projects, Elizabeth Olsen isn’t one of them. The Marvel actress recently explained her distaste for doing her own stunts.
Olsen recently starred in Marvel’s 2022 movie ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiuniverse of Madness,’ as Wanda Maximoff. Prior to the film she starred in the miniseries ‘Wandavision’ as the same character.
During Wednesday’s episode of ‘The Late Show,’ the actress told host Stephen Colbert that she found doing most of her stunts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be “ridiculous.” She also enjoyed how scary doing stunts attached to a wire can be.
Like a rollercoaster
“Your stomach leaves you. It’s like, I guess, the joy people get on roller coasters, which I don’t get, but people love that feeling,” she said.
The ‘Godzilla’ actress said that when she first started doing stunts on set she would just laugh, “definitely recovered from my giddiness. Sometimes I’m just like, ‘Okay, how many more of these do you want? I can do this all day,’ kind of thing. But sometimes I get a little freaked out.”
She also recalled filming a stunt for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ Where the actress was asked to drop 30 feet in the air.
“They wanted to drop me pretty quickly so that it looked like it had an impact, but I kept landing like Peter Pan, kind of like fencing,” she said. “I was like, ‘Just use the double. This is so ridiculous. There is a double for a reason. Like, face replace.’ They do it all the time.”
New technology and stunt doubles
Olsen explained how they ended up using her take in the film despite new technology and stunt doubles. “We’ve had so much technology, growth through these movies, and they just chose to really use me,” she added.
Although she did not do all her own stunts in the 2019 movie ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ she did most of them. Olsen described it as, “a waste of everyone’s time because a stunt double does it so much better.”
