‘Mean Girls’ is a teen comedy film written by Tina Fey and released in 2004. The movie has since cemented itself in pop culture and quickly became a teen classic.

The film was later adapted into a coming-of-age musical with music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin and book by Tina Fey. The musical premiered at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. in October 2017.

It later made its Broadway debut in spring 2018 where the show ran until January 2021.

In February 2020, Fey announced that the musical will receive a film adaptation, with Fey returning to write the script. The movie will be directed by Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne.

The cast

The film will star Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, Reneé Rapp as Regina George, Bebe Wood as Gretchen Wieners, Avantika Vandanpu as Karen Smith, Auli’i Cravalho as Janis Sarkisian, Jaquel Spivey as Damian Hubbard, Jenna Fischer as Ms. Heron, Tina Fey as Ms. Norbury, Tim Meadows as Principal Duvall and Jon Hamm as Coach Carr.

Will the original ‘Mean Girls’ cast make a cameo?

While Fey and Meadows are reprising their original movie roles as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall, respectively, rumors are swirling that Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried could make an appearance.

Although this hasn’t been officially confirmed, Seyfried expressed her willingness to join the cast to Entertainment Tonight.

“It’s been a long legacy for ‘Mean Girls’, and I think we all kinda just need to hang,” she said.

Will the Broadway stars make a cameo?

According to Entertainment Tonight, Ashley Park, who portrayed the role of Gretchen Wieners in the Broadway show, is confirmed to make a cameo.

Furthermore, Rapp took over the role of Regina George from Taylor Louderman on Broadway and will reprise her role for the film.

The ‘Mean Girls: The Musical’ film adaptation does not have an official release date at the time of writing.
