The trailer and cast list for Wes Anderson’s upcoming film ‘Asteroid City’ has arrived

Just a day after the cast for Wes Anderson’s new film ‘Asteroid City’ was announced, the official trailer was released. The movie is set to hit theaters on June 16 of this year.

The film is set in the 1950s in a fictional American desert town, at a junior stargazer and space cadet convention. The event is designed to unite students and parents in a scholarly competition before chaos ensues and world-changing events take place.

‘Asteroid City’ will be the first film Anderson has directed since ‘The French Dispatch,’ which was released in 2021. The plot is described on IMDb as “The Itinerary of a Junior Stargrazer convention is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.”

The trailer, which is packed with famous faces including Scarlett Johansson and Steve Carell, suggested the inclusion of an alien invasion in the plot.

This is one of two of Anderson’s upcoming films, he is also directing ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,’ which is Anderson’s second Adaption of a Roald Dahl story after ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox,’ which was released in 2009.

The cast

The film’s main cast will include Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Hong Chau, and Scarlett Johansson. Their character names and specific roles have yet to be announced.

According to IMDb, Matt Dillion will play the role of Hank, and Rupert Friend will play Montana. Mellanie Hubert will take on the role of Petra, and Steve Park will play Roger.

Other big names in the ‘Asteroid City’ cast include Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Tilda Swinton, Maya Hawke, Sophia Lillis, Bryan Cranston, Adrien Brody, Edward Norton, Fisher Stevens, and Steve Carell.

The film is co-written with Roman Coppola, the son of ‘The Godfather’ director Francis Ford Coppola. The duo has worked together before on films including ‘The French Dispatch,’ ‘Isle of Dogs,’ and ‘Moonrise Kingdom.’

Asteroid City will be released in select theaters on Friday, June 16, and is expected to debut at the Cannes Film Festival at the end of May. The film will have a nationwide official release on Friday, June 23.
