Patrick Mahomes no doubt has his focus on this Sunday’s Super Bowl LVII, as he looks to lead his Kansas City Chiefs past the Philadelphia Eagles.

With that in mind, you can understand why he would fall for a fake Rihanna quote claiming he is “the greatest quarterback ever.”

Rihanna back on stage at the Super Bowl

Rihanna’s name has been everywhere in the buildup to Sunday’s big game. That’s no surprise given she is returning to the musical spotlight this Sunday after a lengthy hiatus. She hasn’t performed live since 2018, and she hasn’t released a new album since 2016′s ‘Anti’.

Since then she’s kept busy with other business ventures, as well as starting a family, welcoming a baby boy last May with boyfriend A$AP Rocky.

Given she has had 14 No.1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, the fourth most all time, trailing only The Beatles, Mariah Carey, and Elvis Presley, her return to the stage is no small matter.

Mahomes tricked by fake Rihanna quote

Given football and entertainment come together at the Super Bowl, Mahomes was asked by former NFL receiver Brandon Marshall what his thoughts were on being called “the greatest quarterback ever” by the singer.

The problem was the quote wasn’t real.

“It makes me feel great. She’s gonna crush it at halftime,” said Mahomes. “I have family members that I think are more excited about the halftime show than they are the game.

“And so whatever Rihanna says is like the gospel, so I’m glad that she went with me for that honor.”

It’s then that Marshall waited a moment, before telling Mahomes: “She didn’t. She didn’t.”

The admission brought out a collective laugh from the media members in attendance, with Mahomes taking the joke in stride.

“You got me up here smiling,” he laughed.
