Fans don’t mind that viral Drake and The Weeknd song is AI-generated
The song ‘Heart on My Sleeve’ was created by artificial intelligence and posted to TikTok over the weekend.
A new song that sounds like it was made by Drake and The Weeknd continues to attract listeners, even though the real artists didn’t actually have anything to do with production of the track.
The AI-generated song ‘Heart on My Sleeve’
Released by the anonymous TikTok user ghostwriter977 over the weekend, the song ‘Heart on My Sleeve’ features voices that are eerily similar to those of Drake and The Weeknd.
“I came in with my ex like Selena to flex/Bumpin’ Justin Bieber, the fever ain’t left/She know what she need, Anita, she blessed/Givin’ you my best,” the AI-generated Drake raps on the song.
Since being uploaded to the app on Saturday, April 15, the song has amassed over 15 million views across seven promotional clips, while the song generated 600,000 spins on Spotify.
A YouTube video had another 275,000 views, with the creator leaving an ominous comment below: “This is just the beginning.”
While the songs may have appeal to fans, they’ve already been pulled from most streaming platforms after their label, Universal Music Group, released a statement condemning “infringing content created with generative AI.”
“We’re encouraged by the engagement of our platform partners on these issues – as they recognize they need to be part of the solution,” a UMG spokesman told Billboard in a statement.
Fans don’t seem to mind the song is AI-generated
While Drake’s AI-generated verses come off as more authentic than those of the faux Weeknd, many fans in the comments didn’t seem to mind.
“This is so unreasonably good. I just downloaded it on Apple Music. I really hope you don’t get sued for this because I don’t want this to go away,” wrote one fan on TikTok.
“Hardest Drake in a long time and it’s AI,” another user wrote, and another added: “I like it but I feel like I’m not supposed to.”
“Funny that the best drake song isn’t from drake,” added another.
This isn’t the first AI-generated song of Drake. On Friday, the artist took to Instagram to voice his opinion on using artificial intelligence after a cover of him singing Ice Spice’s ‘Munch’ circulated.
“This is the last straw,” he wrote on his story, along with a post about the AI clip.
