‘Freaky Friday’ sequel in the works with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis on board
Both Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are in talks to reprise their ‘Freaky Friday’ roles.
It’s been 20 years since ‘Freaky Friday’, starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, was released to critical acclaim in 2003.
The actresses played a mother/daughter duo who magically have their bodies swapped one Friday morning and must learn how to live as the other until they can learn how to undo the change.
Now a sequel to the hit movie is in the works at Disney, with both Lohan and Curtis reprising their roles.
Both Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are on board for a sequel
Back in February, Curtis confirmed that the sequel would most definitely go ahead.
“It’s going to happen,” she told Variety at the Producers Guild Awards. “Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen.”
Lohan and Curtis confirmed the news in a recent New York Times interview, where they celebrated the 20th anniversary of the movie.
“As I went around the world with [the 2022 film] Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” Curtis recalled.
“Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”
Lohan confirmed that both she and Curtis are on board to make a sequel and reprise their roles as Anna (Lohan) and Tess (Curtis) Coleman.
“Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
The sequel would also mark Lohan’s return to the movie industry, following her recent appearance in the Netflix holiday-themed romantic comedy ‘Falling for Christmas’.
What is ‘Freaky Friday’ based on?
The plot of 2003′s ‘Freaky Friday’ is based on the 1972 children’s novel ‘Freaky Friday’ by Mary Rodgers, where a teenage girl named Annabelle wakes up one morning in her mother’s body after the two had a fight.
The book has since been adapted to film several times, including a 1976 version starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris, a 1995 version starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann, and a 2018 version starring Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff.
