The Colombian artists collaborate on a new single and a video clip that contains several scenes in the style of ‘The Little Mermaid’.
The latest song from Shakira, a collaboration with fellow Colombian artist Manuel Turizo, is now available on all digital platforms. The single, titled ‘Copa Vacía’ (Empty Cup) was released in the early hours of Thursday, June 29, with the accompanying music video showcasing the Colombian star transformed into a mermaid. The video was made public on YouTube at 8 p.m. ET and amassed more than 300,000 views in less than 30 minutes.
Following her recent hits such as ‘TQG’, ‘Acróstico’ and ‘Music Sessions Vol. 53′, among others, the singer from Barranquilla has joined up with fellow Colombian Turizo, unveiling their new collaboration that looks set to be a wild-fire success.

Phrases like “I’ve been thirsty for you for a while, I don’t know whyI’m left wanting more and trying to drink from an empty cup” or “you’re always busy with so much business. A little leisure would do you good, my love,” and “you don’t have to be a poet to sweet talk me, put down the phone, use your hand with me” have seen her fans focused on her love life, especially in light of her breakup with Gerard Piqué and rumours linking her to a new romance.
According to information published by Spanish-language outlet Los40, the song was written by Shakira, and she has been in charge of the timing of the release, as well as deciding how it was going to be released. “The song isn’t actually mine, it’s hers (Shakira’s). She is the one who decides when she wants to release it,” Manuel Turizo said in a conversation with the media outlet last March.
This latest single from the ‘Whenever, Wherever’ star comes after her decision to move with her children to Miami, United States, amidst rumours of a romance with Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton, and nearly a month after releasing “Acróstico”. ‘Copa Vacía’ will be on a new album the singer is planning to release, however at present it doesn’t have a name or release date.
