Gabriel García Márquez’s unpublished work to be released
Random House has announced that the never-before-published work by the author of ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ will be released “in 2024 in all Spanish-speaking countries except Mexico”.
The publishing house said the upcoming release “will undoubtedly be the most important publishing event of the coming year,” and described the book as the epitome of Márquez’s creativity.
“[The novel contains] the most outstanding aspects of Gabo’s work,” Random House said in the statement. “[H]is capacity for invention, the poetry of language, the captivating narrative, his understanding of human beings and his affection for their experiences and misfortunes, especially in love, possibly the main theme of his entire oeuvre.”
“Reading it once again almost ten years after his death we discovered that the text had many and very enjoyable merits,” the publisher added.
Márquez’s son comments in the publisher’s statement
Rodrigo and Gonzalo García Barcha, Gabriel García Márquez’s son, illustrated the context of the unseen novel.
“‘En agosto nos vemos’ was the fruit of a last effort to continue creating against all odds,” Barcha said as per the statement from the publisher.
