George Lucas has already moved on from ‘Star Wars’: “I have a life”
The filmmaker is investing his time in setting up a new museum in Los Angeles.

George Lucas is pouring his energy into his latest passion project: the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, currently under construction in Los Angeles.
In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, the legendary filmmaker reflected on his relationship with Star Wars—and made it clear that chapter of his life is behind him.
Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney back in 2012, handing over stewardship of the galaxy far, far away. “Disney took it and put their vision on it—that’s what happened,” he said when asked if he had truly moved past the saga.

Building a museum is harder than making movies
At 81, the director and screenwriter admits the museum project has been far more challenging than filmmaking. “Of course I’ve moved on—I have a life. I’m building a museum, and that’s harder than making movies,” Lucas explained.
Disney’s era of Star Wars
Since acquiring Lucasfilm, Disney has produced the sequel trilogy along with a slate of live-action series now streaming on Disney+. Despite mixed reviews, the studio is finally shifting focus to stories set after The Rise of Skywalker. Several new productions are already in development, expanding the franchise into uncharted territory.
After years away from theaters, Star Wars will return to the big screen with The Mandalorian & Grogu, slated for release in May 2026. The next film, Star Wars: Starfighter, will push the timeline forward, exploring events set after the sequel trilogy.
