Goodbye to big PlayStation games on PC: Sony's AAA titles will once again be exclusive to PS5

The Japanese company will once again opt for the traditional model of console exclusivity, at least when it comes to major titles.

Protagonista de Ghost of Yotei

Sony is making a dramatic pivot in its gaming strategy. Just when it seemed the industry was moving away from platform exclusives, PlayStation is preparing to pull back—hard. According to reporting from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who spoke with people familiar with the company’s internal plans, Sony will stop releasing its biggest first‑party titles on PC.

The change primarily affects PlayStation’s flagship AAA releases—the so‑called “prestige games” that define the brand. One example cited: Ghost of Yotei will not be coming to PC. And it doesn’t stop there. Schreier reports that Saros, the next game from the studio behind Returnal and scheduled to hit PS5 on April 30, 2026, will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive as well.

Multiplayer‑focused titles, however, appear to be exempt from this new direction. Games like the upcoming Marathon reboot or Marvel Tokon are still expected to launch on PC. Even so, the shift suggests Sony will now evaluate each release individually rather than following a blanket strategy.

Exclusive games aren’t going anywhere

Predicting where the industry goes from here is tricky. Nintendo remains firmly committed to exclusivity for its biggest franchises. Microsoft, on the other hand, tore down the walls years ago—every Xbox Game Studios title now launches on PC from day one.

PlayStation had been trending in that direction too, porting major hits like The Last of Us, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man to PC over the past several years. That’s why this reversal feels so unexpected.

What’s clear is that the long‑predicted “end of exclusives” isn’t happening anytime soon. If anything, Sony’s move signals a renewed battle over platform identity—one that could reshape the next phase of the console wars.
