While country singer Blake Shelton is wrapping up his final season on ‘The Voice’, his wife Gwen Stefani is forging on. However, it didn’t seem to Stefani like a sure thing right away — the singer feared the show wouldn’t have her back following her husband’s decision to move on from the franchise.

The couple met on the show in 2014.

Stefani didn’t think she would get the call

Shelton told People Magazine on Monday he is happy for Stefani’s return next season — but that his wife had feared she wouldn’t be called back for another season due to his decision to leave the show.

“Well, I’m happy,” Shelton said. “When I finally came to the conclusion that I was going to call it a day last year, you know, she even said, ‘Well, I guess they probably won’t have me back ever again.’

“And I go, ‘What are you talking? They invited you to be a coach for seasons before you and I were ever thing,’” the ‘God’s Country’ singer continued. “And she goes, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s right. They did do that.’ I go. ‘Yeah, I’m pretty sure they’re still going to want Gwen Stefani to be a coach.’ Then sure enough, you know, she’s already gonna be back and she was excited to get the call.”

All about the coaching

Shelton explained that Stefani, who will be joined alongside Niall Horan, Reba McEntire, and John Legend for the show’s 24th season, was an excellent fit for the show because of her coaching skills.

“She’s just really comes at coaching in a way that I don’t think anybody else has done still and there’s been a lot of coaches,” Shelton revealed. “But she’s such a visionary, and that comes through with her artists. You can see these kids come on the show... by the end they actually look like stars, and that’s the Gwen Stefani effect.”
