Halle Berry breaks her silence on her biggest on-set argument: “That guy deserved it”

Halle Berry, the acclaimed Academy Award–winning actress for Monster’s Ball in 2002 for Best Actress, who has also appeared in films such as The Flintstones, Swordfish, Die Another Day, Catwoman, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and Moonfall, among many others, recently recalled her most intense on-set confrontation.

The actress, who premiered a new film earlier this month alongside Chris Hemsworth, admitted that she had a direct and heated clash with Bryan Singer, the director of the first two X-Men films in which she played the mutant Storm.

The confrontation ended with Berry allegedly telling Singer, “You can kiss my Black ass,” after a situation that had become unsustainable on set. According to Berry, the director was making life difficult for the entire cast:

“I got to tell Bryan Singer just where to go and how to get there on the set of X-Men one day. Everybody was mad, but they all said to me, ‘Halle, you go tell ‘em,’ because they knew I would,” Berry explained with satisfaction.

“And it’s one of the greatest days on a set, telling someone who was wronging the entire crew, the entire cast, exactly where to go. And then I got on a plane and flew home with my X-Men suit on. I’m sorry, that guy deserved it,” the actress concluded.

Reportedly, Singer filmed a risky scene without stunt doubles while under the influence of drugs, something that he has refuted, which triggered an angry reaction from producer Tom DeSanto, who found himself alone as studio executives remained indifferent. They even sided with Singer and threatened to fire the producer.

The situation became untenable, and the film’s cast, led by Halle Berry, decided to take action. They went to the director’s trailer dressed in their black X-Men uniforms and demanded major changes in his behavior. Berry, for her part, clearly did not hold back.
