Harrison Ford is in tears during standing ovation for ‘Indiana Jones 5’ at Cannes

At the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, Harrison Ford held back tears as the audience gave a five-minute standing ovation as the credits rolled at the premiere of ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’.

Ford was joined by his fellow cast members Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Boyd Holbrook, Ethann Isidore, Shaunette Renee Wilson, and Mads Mikkelsen, for the fifth and final movie in the ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise.

Ford honored with the Palme d’Or

Before the movie was played, Cannes festival director Thierry Fremaux took a moment to present a highlight reel of Ford’s career, from his movies ‘Witness’, both the original and new ‘Blade Runner’, ‘The Fugitive’, ‘Working Girl’, ‘Star Wars’ and many more.

Fremaux was then joined on the stage by the Cannes festival president Iris Knobloch, and both honored an emotional Ford with the Palme d’Or.

“They say when you’re about to die you see your life flash before your eyes, and I just saw my life flash before my eyes — a great part of my life but not all of my life,” Ford began upon accepting the prestigious award.

“My life has been enabled by my lovely wife, who has supported my passion and my dreams, and I’m grateful,” he said before turning to the audience.

“I love you, too. Thank you. You’ve given my life purpose and meaning, and I’m grateful for that. So grateful to have the opportunity to work with artists like Jim, Phoebe, even Mads,” he joked.

“Now, but I got a movie you gotta see. It’s right behind me, so let me get out of the way,” Ford said before the movie played.

Afterward, the audience gave a standing ovation to the cast in attendance, once again eliciting an emotional reaction out of Ford, who was on the verge of tears.

The final ‘Indiana Jones’ movie

“This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I’ll play the character,” Ford said in an interview with Total Film Magazine. “I anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a film.”

And while Disney is currently gearing up for an ‘Indiana Jones’ series for Disney+, Ford will not be a part of the new series.

‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ will be released in theaters on June 30.
