HBO orders next ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel after ‘House of the Dragon’

After ‘House of the Dragon’, HBO is moving forward with another ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel.

After ‘House of the Dragon’, HBO is moving forward with another ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel.

Fans of the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe will be happy to hear that HBO have confirmed a new prequel project.

What is the name of the new ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel?

The network has ordered a new series, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Night’, based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ books.

The announcement was made during Warner Bros. Discovery presentation to press and investors on Wednesday, in which it was announced that a combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service will be known as Max.

“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naive, but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg,” reads an official description of the show.

“Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

Up until now, there are three novellas in the ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ series written by Martin: ‘The Hedge Knight’, which came out in 1998, ‘The Sworn Sword’ in 2003 and ‘The Mystery Knight’ in 2010.

All three were then published together as ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ in 2015.

What we know about ‘The Hedge Knight’

The show will be written by Martin, who is also slated to be an executive producer alongside Ira Parker.

‘House of the Dragon’ co-creator and showrunner Ryan Condal will also serve as an executive producer, along with with Vince Gerardis, who was EP on both ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘House of the Dragon’.

‘Game of Thrones’ universe continues to expand

The project is the latest to be given the green light by HBO following the success of ‘Game of Thrones’ in 2019.

Since then, the network has moved forward with the ‘House of the Dragon’, which was renewed for a second season less than a week after it premiered. HBO recently started production on the second season.

There are also numerous other projects under consideration, including a Sea Snake prequel show and a Jon Snow spinoff featuring Kit Harrington.

A prequel about Aegon Targaryen and how he conquered Westeros was also reportedly discussed, but Entertainment Weekly says that is not happening at the present moment.
