After numerous successful films, and now video games the beloved children’s fantasy novels will be making their way onto TV screens. According to reports, HBO Max and Warner Brothers are nearing a deal for a ‘Harry Potter’ TV series.

The TV series would reportedly cover one book with each season, however a source for IGN clarifies that Warner Brothers is “nowhere near a deal,’ but the project remains in the talks. The series will also be developed as an HBO Max Original, rather than for HBO proper.

HBO weighs in

Rumors of a ‘Harry Potter’ TV adaptation have been circulating for quite some time. Although HBO Max’s head of originals, Sarah Aubrey told Variety last year that “we don’t have a series in active development right now.”

“There’s nothing like a Harry Potter fan in terms of their endless appetite for storytelling and new ways of interacting with these characters,” she said at the time.

She continued, “So whether it’s the reunion or live events or games, we’re very much in the business of creating new content for those fans and thinking what to do next.”

However, the Warner Brothers Discovery CEO David Zaslav has previously expressed his desire to expand the ‘Harry Potter;’ franchise. Last year he said he hopes, “we can do something with,” ‘Harry Potter’ Author J.K Rowling.

According to Bloomberg, Rowling would be involved with the series but she wouldn’t be the day-to-day showrunner.
