In honor of singer Taylor Swift touching down in their city, the Houston Humane Society is offering a reduced cat adoption fee of $13, in reference to the singer stating on multiple occasions that it’s her lucky number.

The reduced adoption fee, which drops from $50 to $13, is being applied to cats who have lived at the shelter for 30 days or more.

The animal shelter announced the news on social media, with the caption: “KARMA IS A CAT, PURRING IN MY LAP ‘CAUSE IT LOVES ME!!!”, from the Swift song ‘Karma’.

When and where to adopt the cats

“Adopt your new LOVER this weekend, and know ALL TOO WELL how much joy & happiness they’ll bring to your life! HHS is BEJEWELED to announce our Lucky $13 Cat Adoption event to HONOR The Eras Tour Houston dates this weekend!” the animal shelter said in their announcement.

“April 17th-April 23rd cats that have been in our shelter for 30+ days will be available for adoption with a $13 adoption fee!”

Fans interested in adopting a cat from the promotion have until Sunday to add a new feline member to their family from the Houston Humane Society.

Swift is a self-professed cat person

Aside from Swift reiterating that 13 is her lucky number, the $37 discount is being applied to cats, due to Swift being a self-professed cat person.

Swift herself has three cats, two of them are Scottish folds named Olivia Benson (after the Law & Order SVU character) and Meredith Grey (the Grey’s Anatomy protagonist). She also has a ragdoll named Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt’s character from ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).

She’s had Olivia Benson since 2017, Meredith Grey since 2011 and Benjamin Button since 2019.

“I have cats. I’m obsessed with them,” the singer told Time in 2019. “I love my cats so much that when a role came up in a movie called ‘Cats’, I just thought, like, I gotta do this. Like, this is my calling in life to do this—for the ladies.”

In the 2019 movie, she played the cat Bombalurina, a ginger Bengal cat, performing the song ‘Macavity’.

On her love for cats, she says that she appreciates their individuality, saying: “They’re very dignified. They’re independent. They’re very capable of dealing with their own life.”
