How Chris Rock is making Netflix history
How the comedian is setting Netflix apart from other streaming services with new comedy special
Chris Rock is set to make Netflix History.
The comedian will take the stage later tonight on Saturday, March 4, for Netflix’s first-ever global streaming event. He will be performing ‘Chris Rock: Selective Outrage’, signifying Netflix’s subtle move away from streaming services into live showings.
Netflix, typically known as a streaming service for its mostly scripted or taped reality content, is venturing into a new area for online streaming services. This will be a move back into the traditional model of live TV.
This performance will mark Rock’s sixth stand-up special and his second for Netflix just after his 2018 ‘Tamorine’, directed by Bo Burnham. To hype up fans, Netflix has released a 30-second teaser for the special.
How to Watch
The pre-show will start at 9:30 p.m. ET and Rock will take the stage at 10 p.m. ET. There will also be a post-show segment following his performance.
The performance will be exclusively available for Netflix users. Although streaming live, the actual show will take place at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, MD.
What to look out for
The special will take place just around the one-year mark since the infamous Chris Rock and Will Smith slap at last year’s Academy Awards. Many fans are expecting Rock to work the incident into his live comedy set.
Who else will we see?
The 30-minute pre-show will be hosted by Ronny Chieng, Arsenio Hall, Leslie Jones, and Dean Cole. Several unnamed performers are also expected to surprise viewers.
During Rock’s set, Amy Schumer, Cedric the Entertainer, Ice-T, Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Matthew McConaughey, Sir Paul McCartney, Sarah Silverman, and Wanda Sykes are all set to make comical appearances.
For the post-show, David Spade and Dana Carvey are expected to host alongside Hall, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and JB Smoove.
