Prince Harry came close to hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ following news that the two parties held talks last year.

The talks reportedly took place in the build-up to the January release of his memoir, ‘Spare’, though they eventually fizzled out.

After his ‘Saturday Night Live’ appearance fell through, Prince Harry still made several stops on American TV, including appearances on CBS ‘60 Minutes’ and ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’.

Why Prince Harry didn’t appear on SNL

While it’s unclear why talks stalled, a source told Page Six that Harry was open to appearing on the NBC show.

“I know that Harry was all in, he was really serious about doing it - and it would have been great fun as promo for the book,” the source said.

“‘SNL’ producers have been after Harry for a while. Everyone on the show was really into the idea, and people would definitely have tuned in.”

Although the appearance never materialized, the outlet adds that ‘SNL’ executive producer Lorne Michaels isn’t ruling out having Harry on the show in the future.

Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ has now sold more than 3.2 million copies worldwide, making it the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time according to Guinness World Records.

During its first day on sale in the UK, USA and Canada, it moved more than 1.43 million copies.

‘Saturday Night Live’ continues on without Harry

Although Harry’s appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ fell through, the show recently wrapped up a string of three straight first-time hosts that began with Aubrey Plaza.

‘Creed III’ star Michael B. Jordan followed, with ‘The Last of Us’ star Pedro Pascal hosting the show on February 4 with musical guest Coldplay.

The 47-year-old treated fans to a ‘Last of Us’ inspired Mario Kart spoof. The skit showed the Mushroom Kingdom 10 years after its demise, with hope the only thing left for those still living there.

Tasked with getting important cargo to Rainbow Road, Pascal is shown dressed in red hat, shirt and overalls like Super Mario.

Along the way he recruits iconic characters like Luigi, Toad and Yoshi, while enemies such as Goombas, Piranha Plants, red shells, and more also appear.
