How does Jennifer Garner curling her hair in her car honor Reese Witherspoon on her birthday?

Jennifer Garner gave a big shout-out to her friend Reese Witherspoon on her birthday when she re-posted a very charming video of herself achieving incredible, bouncy curls — from her car.

Garner was testing out Witherspoon’s hands-free trick for beautiful curls on-the-go, which the ‘How Do You Know’ actress had published in her book, ‘Whiskey in a Teacup’ four years prior.

In a throwback video Garner posted to Instagram for Witherspoon’s birthday, the circa 2018 Garner sits at her vanity with Witherspoon’s magazine article before her, ready to roll in the curlers.

“A throwback to celebrate my favorite girl,” Garner wrote in the caption, “I love you, @reesewitherspoon, happy happy birthday.”

How does Reese Witherspoon curl her hair?

In the book, Witherspoon said that the way she achieves her signature, piecey curls is with the classic, tried-and-true method of using hot rollers.

The first step is to apply mousse, which upon reading, Garner looks dubiously around her bathroom as though such an item might be scarce.

Then the video cuts to Garner following Witherspoon’s step-by-step instructions to curl her hair using the heated rollers and oversized clips.

Why in the car though?

The catch? Witherspoon’s advice reads to leave the hot curlers in until you get to your destination.

“Get into your car and go where you’re going with the rollers in your hair,” Witherspoon writes.

After reading this, Garner muses, “Well, good, I have school pick-up in just a minute.”

Garner then hops in her car, waves goodbye at the neighbors, and drives to her childrens’ school. On the way there, she pulls over to consult Witherspoon’s book again, as though it were a manual for fixing the car, and realizes she forgot a couple of the steps.

“Oh, I’m supposed to roll the window down,” Garner said, holding up Witherspoon’s photo spread in the book.

“She’s wearing red lipstick, but this is as close as I get,” Garner said, smiling in her light pinkish lip color.

Then she continues driving to the school. “Okay, I’ve reached my destination,” Garner said, parking the vehicle and taking out the hair clips.

She shakes out her curls and looks at the camera. “Do I look Southern?” she asks with a smile. Then after a few spritzes of hair spray, she gets out of the car and says, “Thanks Reese!”
