How many children does Harrison Ford have? Meet them and their mothers
Actor Harrison Ford has several children from his three marriages. We take a look at the 80-year-old Hollywood star’s offspring.
Veteran Hollywood star Harrison Ford, who is now 80, is known for being private about his family. However, he opened up about his children and shared some honest reflections in an interview with Esquire in May.
“I can tell you this. If I’d been less successful, I’d probably be a better parent,” he admitted.
Ford has experienced marital bliss three times, along with the joy of fatherhood, as he proudly boasts five children.
Mary Marquardt - sons Benjamin and Willard
Ford and Mary Marquardt tied the knot on June 18, 1964, and braved the early stages of his acting career, which was fraught with challenges and rejections. However, Marquardt remained by his side, offering unwavering encouragement and guiding him toward a potential opportunity.
Recognizing Ford’s talent, Marquardt suggested that he explore radio voice-overs in Los Angeles. Though he didn’t secure the desired position, Ford’s determination eventually earned him a contract worth $150 per week with Columbia Pictures’ emerging talent program. It was a modest beginning but a significant step forward in his acting career.
The couple’s union blossomed with the arrival of their first child, Benjamin Ford, on September 22, 1966, and their second child, Willard Ford, on May 14, 1969. While Ford faced obstacles in his acting career, Mary supported their family with her culinary skills, working diligently as a chef to contribute as much as possible.
Ford’s success as Han Solo in Star Wars brought new challenges to his marriage, including rumors of infidelity. After 15 years, the strain led to their separation.
Both Ford’s sons from this marriage are successful in their trade; Benjamin continues his mother’s passion and works as a chef/restaurant owner, while Willard is an entrepreneur who has owned Ludwig Clothing Company, Strong Sports Gym, and the Kim Sing Theater, all located in Los Angeles.
Melissa Mathison - son Malcolm, daughter Georgia
Following the end of his first marriage, Ford embarked on a new journey with Melissa Mathison. Mathison was a production assistant on the Apocalypse Now set when she met Harrison in 1976. She is most famous for writing the screenplays for E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), The BFG (2016), and Kundun (1997).
The duo did not start dating until 1982, tying the knot the following year. They welcomed son Malcolm in 1987 and daughter Georgia in 1990, before separating in 2000.
Mathison, who finalized her divorce from Harrison in 2004, passed away in 2015 at age 65. She died from complications relating to neuroendocrine cancer. Their children have successful careers in show business - Malcolm as a musician and Georgia as an actress.
Calista Flockhart - son Liam
Presently, Ford is enjoying the fruits of his third and current marriage to actress Calista Flockhart. She met Harrison at the 2002 Golden Globe Awards, but Flockhart adopted her son, Liam, a year earlier.
The couple married in 2010, and Ford has since legally adopted Liam Flockhart, who is an Amherst College grad.
“I accept my flaws and my failures - I don’t accept them, I own them. And certainly, the more constant gardener is the better parent, and I’ve been out of town, up my own a--, for most of my life,” Ford told Esquire.
