How many children does Kevin Costner have? Get to know his kids and their moms
The ‘Dances with Wolves’ actor, who turns 69 today, has been married twice and is a father to seven children.
Kevin Costner is celebrating his 69th birthday and hoping that this year will be an improvement on the last which was marred by a bitter divorce case. The actor is a dedicated family man and devoted father to his seven children - three each from his relationships with former wives, Cindy Silva and Christine Baumgartner.
In between marriages, Costner was also in relationships with political activist Birgit Cunningham and supermodels Elle MacPherson and Bridget Rooney. He has a son Liam (born in 1996) from his relationship with Rooney.
Who are Kevin Costner’s children?
The actor welcomed his first child, Annie, with his first spouse and college sweetheart Cindy Silva on April 15, 1984. Kevin and Cindy met at California State University. Following in her father’s footsteps, Annie pursued acting and established her own production company Sound Off Films in 2014.
The couple was blessed with another daughter, Lily Costner, on August 4, 1986. Lily appeared in some of Kevin’s movies but is more enthusiastic about singing. She sang Heaven’s Gate during an episode of Yellowstone and has recorded with Connecticut-based group The Alternate Routes.
Her father is evidently, very proud: “She’s really gifted,” the proud dad gushed to Taste of Country in 2021. “She’s content with performing. Does she want to give it to the world? I don’t know.”
The couple had their third child, Joe, who works as a sound engineer and production sound mixer. Joe was born on January 31, 1988. Unfortunately, the couple went through a divorce six years later, in 1994, after being married for 16 years.
After his divorce, Costner had a short-lived romance with Bridget Rooney, which ended before the birth of their son, Liam, in November 1995. Liam prefers to keep a low profile and is presently employed in the real estate sector.
Costner’s second marriage
In 2004, Kevin tied the knot with Christine Baumgartner. However, there was a brief split between the couple due to Costner’s apprehension about having more children.
“[She] wanted a child, but I was afraid I couldn’t be an effective father,” he told Closer Weekly in 2018. “I woke up and thought, ‘Am I going to lose a beautiful woman who is willing to be with me to my very last breath because I am afraid to say yes to a child?’ That’s all it took.”
The couple’s eldest son, Cayden, was born in 2007. Two years later, the couple would welcome their second child, Hayes. Eventually, they would welcome their first daughter together, Grace, in 2010.
Over ten years later, the couple would eventually call it quits when Baumgartner filed for divorce in May 2023 citing “irreconcilable differences”. Costner, who appeared at the Golden Globes ceremony earlier this month, remains single while his ex-wife has moved on and is reported to be dating financier Josh Connor.
