How many VMAs does Taylor Swift need to win to become the most-awarded ever?
The MTV Video Music Awards will air Wednesday night, and Taylor Swift is poised to make history as the artist with the biggest number of trophies.
The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Wednesday night, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. ET at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Taylor Swift could be the big winner of the event, having received the largest number of nominations for the evening.
The 12 awards she’s up for include Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best Pop Artist. Eight of the nominations are for her “Fortnight” music video. Post Malone, with whom the pop star collaborated for “Fortnight”, is the second-most nominated with 11 nods.
Last year, Swift made history by winning a record nine trophies. This time around, she could set another record if she wins enough to become the most awarded artist in the history of the VMAs.

How many VMAs does Taylor Swift need to win to become the most-awarded ever?
With her nine victories in 2023 bringing her total to 23, she took the number two spot from Madonna who has 20. Lady Gaga has 19 wins. Swift now trails only Beyoncé, who is at number one with 30.
The “Bad Blood” singer only needs to take home seven trophies to match Queen Bey’s tally, and eight to become the artist most honored at the VMAs.
However, Beyoncé also has the chance to up her number this year, with nominations for song of the year for “Texas Hold ‘Em” and two social categories.
Will Taylor Swift attend the VMAs?
The singer’s attendance has not yet been announced, and she is not on the list of the evening’s performers. If Swift does grace the event and make speeches if she wins, the audience will be waiting to see if she will make mention of her recent endorsement of presidential candidate Kamala Harris and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.
