How many words does Keanu Reeves say in ‘John Wick 4′?

It looks as though John Wick is a man that doesn’t have a lot to say according to a new report.

Update:
It looks as though John Wick is a man that doesn’t have a lot to say according to a new report.

Keanu Reeves has never been one for conversation whenever he’s played John Wick. However, a new report shows the character truly is a man of action rather than a man of words.

How many words does Keanu Reeves say in ‘John Wick 4′?

A new report from The Wall Street Journal went back and counted how many words Reeves says in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4′, and its safe to say the actor isn’t being paid by the word.

While the film has a runtime of just under three hours (169 minutes), Reeves only says 380 words throughout the entire film. That’s fewer than the first film, ‘John Wick’, in which the title character says a total of 484 words.

The word count is all the more stunning when you consider that almost a third of Wick’s dialogue consists of just one word.

“About 10 percent of them are featured in the movie’s trailer, which makes the hero seem almost chatty; Wick says more in that 2.5 minute clip than he does in the first 25 minutes of the movie itself,” wrote the outlet.

The longest line Reeves has in the film is in a scene with co-star Hiroyuki Sanada (Shimazu Koji) in which Wick says: “You and I left a good life behind a long time ago, my friend.”

As for why Wick says so little, director Chad Stahelski revealed that it was a decision made by Reeves himself.

“Mr. Reeves stripped out roughly half the dialogue written for his character in the initial script,” Stahelski said.

The movie is a success despite Reeves’ low word count

It doesn’t look as though fans are all that worried about Reeves’ lack of words as they were more than happy to head to the theaters over the weekend.

John Wick: Chapter 4′ brought in $73.5 million at the domestic box office from 3,855 theaters, to go along with another $64 million at the international box office.

The domestic numbers mean ‘Chapter 4′ now has the biggest domestic debut of the four films. ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum’ had a domestic debut earning of $56.8 million, while ‘John Wick: Chapter 2′ opened with $30.4 million.

The first film opened to $14 million before becoming a hit on streaming platforms.
