Jesse Palmer has been hosting The Bachelor along with all of its related spinoffs (The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise) for the past three years and will be back on our screens for the first season of The Golden Bachelorette which airs on ABC this evening.

The 45-year-old, former NFL quarterback replaced Chris Harrison as the show’s host in 2021. Harrison had held the role since its screen debut.

Jesse Palmer from NFL to television host

A graduate of the Florida Gators college football programme, Palmer was on the books with the New York Giants from 2001 to 2004 and the San Francisco 49ers until 2005 but only played three games for the Giants and none with the Niners.

After it became clear that he was never really going to carve out a lengthy career in American Football, he diversified by going into broadcasting, working for Fox Sport Net and later, for ESPN.

But even before that, he had already got a taste of what what it’s like to be in front of the cameras. In 2004, he was the lead in season five of The Bachelor, and selected Californian student Jessica Bowlin from a field of 25 contestants. The couple split just a month after the season’s final episode aired in May 2004.

What is Jesse Palmer’s salary?

So how will Palmer earn for hosting the first season of The Golden Bachelorette? His actual salary has not been disclosed by ABC but there enough evidence to suggest that he earns quite a lot less than his predecessor, Chris Harrison.

The reason for that is that Harrison, 53, has is much more experienced and boasts a far longer career in television - not to mention his time presenting The Bachelor. He was the host from the first season in 2002 right up until his departure in June 2021. Chris reportedly earned $2.6 million per season by the time he left but that salary would have been subjected to numerous pay rises over the course of almost two decades.

Palmer, who has starred in several other reality series, including cooking competition shows Recipe to Riches and Holiday Baking Championship, has built up a net worth of $4 million according to Celebrity Net Worth’s calculations

The first season of The Golden Bachelorette will premiere on ABC on Wednesday September 18, at 8pm ET/5pm PT. (If you don’t have cable, you can tune in on the streaming platform fubo, which offers new users a free introductory trial.) Hulu subscribers can watch episodes of The Golden Bachelorette the morning after they air on ABC.
