Earlier this year Eminem released his latest album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’, in which as the title suggests he put a nail in the coffin of his notorious alter ego. However, the rapper picked up a new name this year as well: Grandpa.

The revelation that his daughter Hailie Jade is expecting was made public in a new music video for the song “Temporary” from his 12th studio album. The music video is a montage of childhood home videos of father and daughter along with footage from her wedding to husband Evan McClintock, which took place this past spring.

The 51-year-old native of Detroit used the music video as a touching tribute to the relationship he and Hailie share. The 28-year-old musical artist and podcaster is his sole biological daughter, who he had with his ex-wife Kim Scott. Eminem also has two adopted daughters, Stevie Laine Scott and Alaina Scott, who were born to Kim and her twin sister Dawn Scott, respectively.

The song itself was written to help her cope when he’s gone and ask her to look after her siblings and ‘bruncle’, what she calls Eminem’s younger brother Nate. “You will get over me and move on, you can play me on repeat on a song. But don’t you dare shed a tear, what’d I tell you? ‘Straighten up, little soldier.’” the song continues. And he reminds her that he will always be there for her, “Jade, it’ll be okay, baby. I’m here. I’m watchin’ you right now, baby girl. I vow I will protect you, your guardian angel.”

Eminem finds out that he will be a grandpa when at one point in the music video Hailie brings him a blue Detroit Lions jersey and hands him a card. On the back of the shirt there is the number 1 and the word “Grandpa”. Inside the card is an ultrasound of his grandchild which in an Instagram post, Hailie wrote “mom & dad est. 2025.”
