The Jacob Lewis friendship bracelet
The tributary friendship bracelet project was launched by a Twitter account @swifferwins on Monday.
The Swifferwins fan posted a conversation with Jacob Lewis’ sister, April Bancroft, which revealed a screenshot of direct messages about her brother’s experience during Taylor Swift’s concert.
Brother and sister were at the show together, and Bancroft remembers he “had the most fun” dancing to Swift’s hit song ‘Shake It Off’. “I looked over at him and saw the awe in his eyes watching her perform,” the late Lewis’ sister wrote in the screenshot.
“Jacob’s favorite song to dance to at the eras tour was shake it off,” wrote @swifferwins. “I think it would be a beautiful tribute to make some shake it off bracelets for each other to remember him, and to shake off the haters and live fully.”
What’s the significance of the friendship bracelets?
Taylor Swift fans began exchanging friendship bracelets at the beginning of Swift’s ‘Era’s Tour’ when it kicked off on March 17.
The significance comes from the singing superstar’s hit track on her ‘Midnights’ album, ‘You’re On Your Own, Kid’.
“So make the friendship bracelets/ Take the moment and taste it,” the song lyrics read.
Since the fan’s post about making tribute bracelets to honor Jacob Lewis, many fans have liked and shared the post giving it gained serious traction on the internet.
Lewis is also being honored by a GoFundMe page to help his family pay for funeral costs, with many fans sharing their sympathy and condolences.
After just two days, $110,000 has been raised.
“Long Live Jacob!! You will be Remembered!!” one fan of Taylor Swift wrote in tribute to the young man who died.
“You were bigger than the whole sky. You were more than just a short time,” said another person.
