Is Nicki Minaj attending the Coronation?
Nicki Minaj tweeted that she’s attending the coronation while promoting her new single ‘Princess Diana’.
Fans may have had a moment of confusion when Nicki Minaj tweeted that she was attending King Charles III’s Coronation. But it soon became clear that the artist was simply promoting her new track with Ice Spice, ‘Princess Diana’.
She later shared an audio clip complete with the rapper doing a faux British accent expressing her excitement to attend the coronation.
A humorous song promo
“Rather excited, really, I got the news earlier this morning. I was told that there was a seat that opened up right next to Harry,” Minaj said in her faux British accent in a Twitter voice note, which many fans found hilarious.
“So I rang up his telly immediately, you be Harry Potter and I’ll be Hermione. And he started laughing, and we laughed and laughed and laughed,” the ‘Anaconda’ singer then proceeded to pretend to ask Prince Harry if they were in a G5 or G6 jet.
Which American artists are performing at the Coronation?
While Minaj may not actually be attending the coronation, either as a guest or a performer, much to fans’ disappointment, two American singers will actually be serenading England’s new king on May 6.
Both Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will be joining the festive day, as they have both previously served as ambassadors for charities King Charles founded.
Perry was appointed ambassador for the British Asian Trust in 2020, a charity that fights against child trafficking.
“I am excited to be performing at the Coronation Concert, and helping to shine a further light on the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund, whose work includes on-ground initiatives to fundraising, with the aim to find solutions to child trafficking,” Perry said in a statement.
In 2019, Richie became the first Global Ambassador and the first Chairman of the Global Ambassador Group for The Prince’s Trust. The Prince’s Trust is a charity that aims to “help young people aged 11 to 30 get into jobs, education and training.”
“To share the stage with the other performers at The Coronation Concert is a once-in-a-lifetime event and it will be an honor and a celebration,” Richie said in a press release to the BBC.
