“It’s so great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. There are laws here that protect me when I’m being outspoken”
Former Hole singer Courtney Love says she’s staying put in the U.K., describing the U.S. as “frightening now”.

American musician and actor Courtney Love, who has been living in London since 2019, says she has no plans to leave the United Kingdom.
Indeed, the former Hole lead singer has revealed that she expects to become a British citizen later this year.
“Can’t get rid of me!”
“I’m really glad I’m here,” Love told audience members during event at London’s Royal Geographical Society in early March, per the Daily Mail.
“It’s so great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen - I’m applying, man! Can’t get rid of me!”
Love blasts “emperor-core” Trump
Although she did not directly link her decision to remain in the U.K. to Donald Trump’s return to the White House, Love described the U.S. as “frightening now”, likening President Trump’s administration to that of an imperial monarch.
“Emperor-core is going on at Mar-a-Lago,” the 60-year-old said. “It’s frightening now. It’s like cyanide now.”
“I’m an Anglophile”
Love, who was married to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain until his suicide in 1994, has spoken previously about her enjoyment of life in the U.K.
In an interview with the Standard last year, she lauded the British capital as “the best place I’ve ever lived”.
“I’m an Anglophile,” she said. “I love London, it’s my favourite city and is the best place I’ve ever lived. I’m left alone, there are laws here that protect me when I’m being outspoken, I like the friends I’ve made here.”

Stars flee U.S. amid Trump return
Love is one of several figures in the entertainment industry who are giving the U.S. a wide berth as Trump settles into his second term as president.
Earlier this month, the actor and comedian Rosie O’Donnell revealed that she and her 12-year-old child, Clay, have been living in Ireland since January.
“It has been heartbreaking to see what is happening over there politically and hard for me personally as well,” O’Donnell said in a TikTok video.
O’Donnell, who noted that she is seeking Irish citizenship, spoke of her concern for the welfare of Clay, who identifies as non-binary, in Trump’s America.
The 63-year-old, who is homosexual and has been a vocal advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, added that she would return to the U.S. “when you know it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America.”
Other celebrities who have left the U.S. in recent times include the talk-show host Ellen Degeneres and her wife, the actor Portia de Rossi, who have moved to the U.K.
Hollywood stars Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling, who have two children together, have also settled in Britain.
