Jamie Lee Curtis shares her love and support for her daughter Ruby on Trans Day of Visibility
It’s no secret that Jamie Lee Curtis is a supportive mother to her daughter Ruby, 27, previously known as Thomas.
There is no lack of love or visibility in Jamie Lee Curtis’ recent Instagram post for Friday’s Trans Visibility Day. Curtis shared a heartfelt post on a day meant to highlight and commemorate trans people and their societal struggles, from violence to a lack of acceptance.
“Love is love. A mother’s love knows no judgment. As a mother, I stand in total solidarity with my children as they move forward in the universe as their authentic selves with their own minds and bodies and ideas.
“On this trans visibility day my daughter and I are visible. #transvisibilityday” – writes the 64-year-old actress with a photo of her and her younger daughter laughing.
How Jamie Lee Curtis navigates the changes with Ruby
Jamie Lee Curtis watched in pride and wonder alongside her husband, 75-year-old director Christopher Guest, as the transition was being made. In addition to Ruby, the couple also share another daughter, Annie, 36.
In an interview alongside her mother, Ruby detailed how she came out to her parents, which she did in 2020 over text, unable to do it in person.
“It was scary — just the sheer fact of telling them something about me they didn’t know,” Ruby told the interviewer in 2021. “It was intimidating — but I wasn’t worried. They had been so accepting of me my entire life.”
Curtis admitted the change involved “learning new terminology and words” but emphasized that love and support were never lacking.
“I don’t get mad at them for that,” Ruby said of her parents’ occasional pronoun slip-ups.
Officiating Ruby’s wedding
Curtis actually officiated the wedding between Ruby and their partner Kynthia in May 2022, a special moment between them as the ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ actress continues her support and advocacy against transphobia.
