Jane’s Addiction concert ends in chaos as Perry Farrell punches Dave Navarro

The original lineup of the veteran Los Angeles rock band embarked on a reunion tour of the United States only two weeks ago.

A Jane’s Addiction concert in Boston ended in chaos on Friday night after lead singer Perry Farrell threw a punch at guitarist Dave Navarro and had to restrained by crew members, who ushered him offstage.

What happened on stage between Farrell and Navarro?

The band were coming towards the end of “Ocean Size,” the 11th song of their set list which usually contains 14 or 15 numbers, when Farrell began directing aggressive grunts towards Navarro, which he had previously been doing to the crowd at Leader Bank Pavilion.

The singer then strode up to the former Red Hot Chilli Peppers star and barged into him as he was playing. After Navarro had put a hand up to try and keep his distance, a screaming Farrell threw a punch, which connected with the guitarists’ chest. The incident was captured on video by a number of concertgoers.

According to several social media users, members of the band had appeared to be at odds with one another in previous shows, while some claimed tension had already been in the air in Boston before Farrell and Navarro’s altercation.

The classic Jane’s Addiction lineup of Farrell, Navarro, Eric Avery (bass) and Stephen Perkins (drums) only reunited in May, released their first single in 11 years and embarked on a reunion tour of the United States at the end of August.

Will Jane’s Addiction’s United States tour be cancelled?

Jane’s Addiction are due to play another 15 U.S. shows, starting at Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Monday (September 15) and ending on October 16 at YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. As yet, there is no news as to whether those shows could be in danger of being cancelled.
