Jennifer Coolidge is scheduled to take home the Comedic Genius Award at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards on May 7.

The 2023 MTV Awards

Drew Barrymore will be hosting the awards show, which will take place Sunday, May 7 at 8 pm EST.

The show’s executive producers are MTV’s Bruce Gillmer, Wendy Plaut, and Vanessa Whitewolf, joined by Den of Thieves’ Jesse Ignjatovic and Barb Bialkowski. Production executives include Jackie Barba and Alicia Portugal, with Lisa Lauricella and Mike Ostolaza serving as music talent execs.

The Comedic Genius Award

The award has been handed out only five times in the past, with recipients being seen such as comedians as Will Ferrell in 2013, Kevin Hart in 2015, Melissa McCarthy in 2016, Sacha Baron Cohen in 2021, and Jack Black in 2022.

The Comedic Genius Award “honors actors who have made incomparable contributions to the world of comedy, providing a major influence through their work and transforming the genre at large,” as per MTV.

Jennifer Coolidge a rising comic genius

Jennifer Coolidge is nominated for two awards categories for the 2023 edition of MTV’s ceremony: best comedic performance for the romantic comedy with Jennifer Lopez, ‘Shotgun Wedding’, and most frightened performance for her role as the wealthy and unhinged Tanya McQuoid in HBO’s ‘The White Lotus’.

‘The White Lotus’ has scored Coolidge several awards, including a Primetime Emmy in 2022 for outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie.

The 61-year-old has a litany of Blockbuster hits under her belt, as she has been on the Hollywood circuit since the ‘90s.

Coolidge played Stifler’s mom in the 1999 comedy ‘American Pie’, and skyrocketed to famed upon co-starring with Reese Witherspoon as Paulette in the ‘Legally Blonde’ movies.

The ‘Legally Blonde’ actress also worked with director Christopher Guest on 2000′s ‘Best In Show’, 2003′s ‘A Mighty Wind’, and ‘For Your Consideration’ in 2006, and had a leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series, ‘The Watcher’, where she plays a realtor and old friend of Naomi Watts’ character.

Coolidge has also been in Netflix’s family movie, ‘We Have a Ghost’, ‘A Cinderella Story’ with Hilary Duff, and ‘Promising Young Woman’.
