Having given birth to her first child back in 2005, Jennifer Garner admits she was a “nightmare” new mom.

The 51-year-old reflected on her experiences in the most recent Allure cover story, which was published on Tuesday. Garner admits she was all over her daughter Violet, who is now 17.

“I was such a first-time mom,” Garner joked, adding that Violet “didn’t have a shot.”

“She couldn’t have a free thought - I was all over her. I was a nightmare for everyone around me.”

Garner, who is also the mother of Seraphina, 14, and Samuel, 11, with ex-husband Ben Affleck, says she is much more at ease when it comes to looking after her children now.

“Your kids will really figure out who they are and what they are when they’re older, and most likely they will hew toward lovely,” said Garner.

“I don’t love every behavior all the time, always. It’s gnarly growing up.”

As for becoming a mom, Garner revealed she always knew she was going to be one given her love for dolls and her junior high babysitting company.

“I really could have been a mother in any way,” she added. “I could have adopted, I could have fostered, but there was no doubt I was going to be a mom.”

Garner relives her ‘Alias’ days

For the Allure cover shoot, Garner returned to her ‘Alias days’, wearing several eye-catching wigs for the occasion.

Garner sported a Miu Miu look for the cover, along with a side-parted rose gold bob. In another picture, she put on a yellow PVC trench coat to go along with a platinum blond bowl cut.

Another picture shows Garner showing off her abs in a Michael Kors gown with short red hair.

“When ‘Alias’ came out, I was so celebrated for being a hard worker, a dream of a number one on the call sheet, all of those things,” said Garner.

“Now I look back and I think, God, I was such a pain in J.J.’s [series creator Abrams’] ass.”
