Jennifer Lawrence chooses her all-time favorite movie and it’s from 2025: “Thank you for this experience”

The actress, known for ‘The Hunger Games’, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and ‘American Hustle’ was left speechless by the movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Update:

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence—who took home the Academy Award for Silver Linings Playbook and earned three other nominations for Winter’s Bone, American Hustle, and Joyhas revealed her favorite movie of all time. And it’s not a classic from decades past, but a brand-new release from 2025: Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Chase Infiniti, and Benicio del Toro.

This is the best movie I’ve ever seen,” Lawrence said during a recent episode of the BAFTA Playback podcast.

A cinematic phenomenon of 2025

One Battle After Another has quickly become one of the year’s biggest cultural events, already emerging as a frontrunner for the upcoming Oscars. With Anderson’s signature storytelling, breathtaking cinematography, and electric performances, the film has captivated audiences worldwide.

Lawrence couldn’t hold back her enthusiasm: “I can’t remember a time where I ever had an experience like that in the cinema, and it was shared. When it was over, everyone applauded. I just kept thanking my husband over and over and over again because he had booked the tickets, like two weeks in advance, and I just couldn’t say anything else other than just like, ‘Thank you for that experience.’”

Box office triumph

Nearly two months after its theatrical debut, One Battle After Another has surpassed $200 million globally. While it’s now available on digital platforms, Lawrence insists the film is best experienced on the big screen.

You have to see it in theatres. I think it’s an impossible pace to uphold. There’s not an extra minute in it, at no point does it drag,” she explains. “And P T Anderson has so many characters inside of him, and they’re all so visceral, so real that you’re, it’s so alive and you’re in it. Every character, you are, you know them and you see them. I mean, the performances are unbelievable. Sean Penn, I mean, Leo, obviously, but I mean, my God.”

Anderson’s latest masterpiece

Paul Thomas Anderson, the visionary behind Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), Punch-Drunk Love (2002), There Will Be Blood (2007), The Master (2012), Phantom Thread (2017), and Licorice Pizza (2021), delivers another unforgettable story.

The official synopsis describes DiCaprio’s character Bob as “a broken revolutionary, lost in drunken paranoia, living in isolation with his daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti). When his ruthless enemy (Sean Penn) resurfaces after 16 years and Willa disappears, Bob must fight to find her while confronting the ghosts of his past.”

Where to watch

One Battle After Another is still playing in select theaters across the U.S. and internationally. For those who prefer streaming, it’s available to rent on Prime Video and Apple TV+.
