Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck divorce: Did they have a prenup?
After two years of marriage and much speculation, the A-list couple are set to divorce for a second time.
For a second time, the marriage of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck is over. J-Lo has filed for divorce from the actor two years after the A-list couple decided to remarry.
According to a TMZ report, the ‘On the Floor’ singer filed legal documents in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, August 20, a significant date in the couple’s history. Lopez appeared at the appointment without a lawyer.
The actress listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024 but choosing to file the papers on Tuesday may have some significance. The couple tied the knot for a second time in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022 but went on to hold a larger wedding ceremony on August 20 of that year.
Did Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have a prenuptial agreement?
Reports suggest that the legal documents submitted by Lopez do not indicate whether a prenuptial agreement exists. Sources with knowledge of the situation told TMZ that the couple did not sign a prenup before embarking on a second marriage.
That means any profits or gains the two have made during the past two years of marriage are, in theory, joint property. According to the documents, Lopez has waived spousal support and is asking the judge to deny it to Affleck as well. Since they did not have children together, there are no custody issues.
The news that Lopez has submitted the divorce documents is no major surprise. AS USA reported last month that the couple were set to separate but today’s development is confirmation of the latest, and surely final, chapter in this Hollywood romance.
