More than two decades have passed since the best on-screen kiss of Johnny Depp’s career.
At 61, Johnny Depp has more than earned his place in cinematic history. The American actor and director has left an indelible mark on the industry, with nearly 70 films to his name and credits as a producer on more than a dozen others. From Edward Scissorhands and Pirates of the Caribbean to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he’s shared the screen with some of Hollywood’s biggest names and created some of the most memorable moments in modern film.
Over the course of his four-decade career, Depp’s life has been filled with both artistic milestones and colorful behind-the-scenes anecdotes. One of the most surprising came recently, when he revealed who gave him the best on-screen kiss of his career. During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the actor stunned fans with his answer.
Who gave Johnny Depp his best on-screen kiss?
To find out, we have to go back 25 years, to the film Before Night Falls. Directed by American filmmaker Julian Schnabel and released in 2000, the movie tells the story of Cuban poet and novelist Reinaldo Arenas — his rural childhood, his involvement in the Cuban Revolution, and the persecution he later faced as a writer and a gay man in Fidel Castro’s Cuba. The film was shot in several locations, including the port of Veracruz, Mexico, which stood in for Havana.
Depp confessed that the best kiss he’s ever received on screen came from Spanish actor Javier Bardem during the filming of Before Night Falls. Bardem’s powerful performance in the movie earned him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, making him the first Spanish actor ever to achieve that distinction.
