Karol G calls out GQ Mexico for editing her picture

The singer called out the magazine for making her almost unrecognizable.

Karol G is calling out GQ Mexico for the recent editing work done to her cover photo for a special edition of the magazine, in which the artist looks almost unrecognizable.

In an Instagram post, Karol G says that she feels both uncomfortable and disrespected by the final photos, which were shot to celebrate the magazine’s inaugural Global Creativity Awards, of which she is one of the honorees.

Karol G finds the edits disrespectful

“I don’t even know where to start this message... Today my GQ magazine cover was made public, a cover with an image that DOES NOT represent me,” the ‘Tusa’ singer said in her translated Instagram caption.

“My face does not look like this, my body does not look like that, and I feel very happy and comfortable with how I look naturally.

I’m grateful for the opportunity GQ gave me, and I was very happy when they confirmed I’d be on the cover, but despite making clear my discontent with the number of edits they did to the photo, they didn’t do anything about it, as if to look good I needed all those changes.

“I understand the repercussions this can have, but beyond feeling it’s disrespectful to me, it’s to the women that every day wake up looking to feel comfortable with ourselves despite society’s stereotypes.

Karol G is one of the honorees for the inaugural GQ Global Creativity Awards, described by GQ as celebrating “the world’s most fearless and inspiring creatives.”

Other honorees include musician, comedian, actor, and show-runner Donald Glover, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and designers Yohji Yamamoto, and Grace Wales Bonner.

Karol G fans show their support

Fans came out to support the artist, including Colombian social media influencer, Daiky Gamboa, who commented on her post, saying:

“You have a very large and long process to show the world that if one can feel comfortable in his body without having to surrender to the pressures of the media, you do not have to give in at this moment, much less keep quiet to something that does not represent you. I love you forever and so proud of you.”

“I thought the same, you’re naturally so pretty and that cover? What a horror that the magazine didn’t listen to you. in the end they are the ones who look bad,” said influencer Michelle Lewin.

what a message!!!! I congratulate you for your attitude and for continuing to be that strong, beautiful, and authentic girl,” said Brazilian singer Giulia Be.
