Karol G becomes first woman to have an all-Spanish album top Billboard’s chart

The ‘TQG’ singer became the first woman with an all-Spanish album to reach the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart

After speculation that Karol G’s new album ‘Mañana Será Bonito’ could potentially reach the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart, the artist has made history by becoming the first woman with an all-Spanish language album to claim the coveted honor.

Before Karol G, Bad Bunny was the first artist to ever have an all-Spanish album achieve the number one spot for ‘El Ultimo Tour del Mundo’ in 2020 and again for ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ in 2022.

Karol G becomes the second Latina to land the Billboard number one spot

The number one spot on the Billboard 200 covers every genre, making the achievement quite monumental.

“I feel so very special. More than happiness I feel special,” the artist told Billboard.

“My last album did so well and had all those big hits, like ‘Bichota,’ so the bar was high. But I didn’t want to make music because I felt pressure. I wanted to make the music I wanted to make, and the fact that I’ve hit No. 1 with an album that is so personal is enormous,” she said.

Karol G has become the first Latina to earn the number-one spot since Selena’s posthumous 1995 album ‘Dreaming of You’, which had songs in both English and Spanish, and was the artist’s first crossover album.

Karol G, who is herself a huge Selena fan, was excited to share the honor with the Tejano artist.

“I’m sharing something with Selena! That’s amazing. Imagine my year: I met Rihanna, I recorded with Shakira and now I have a No. 1 on the chart like Selena did,” the ‘Bichota’ singer added.

A huge turning point for women in music

The artist also noted the strong success of women in the music industry during Women’s History Month.

“And how cool is it that on International Women’s Month, I get to No. 1, and the artist before me at No. 1 was SZA,” Karol G added. SZA was also crowned Woman of the Year at this year’s Billboard Women in Music event.

“And that ‘TQG’ is No. 1 [on Spotify] and all these songs by women are in the top slots. We’re living such a strong moment. Now, we’re going for more.”

Karol G recently collaborated with fellow Colombian singer Shakira on ‘TQG’, reaching number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 since it was released on February 24.
