Kate Middleton joins athletes for mental wellness week

Princess Kate met with young athletes to learn about what it means to have a winning mindset.

The Princess of Wales visited with teen athletes on Tuesday as Mental Health Awareness Week kicks off in the UK.

Kate Middleton learned from the young athletes’ mentors how to persevere with a winning attitude and mindset at the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust in Bath, which is about 115 miles from London. The trust encourages and provides scaffolding for young people through athletics and inspirational support.

Middleton is a rigorous advocate for the wellbeing of young children, usually among children under the age of five — but this time the princess is turning her focus to the mental health of teenagers.

Upon her visit to the foundation, Princess Kate met with young athletes who seek mentorship and other support from more-experienced athletes.

The princess then went to a nearby school, St. Katherine’s in Bristol, to meet elementary school-age children — also to talk about sports and having a winning mindset.

‘Shaping Us’ ambassador reveals Princess Kate’s character

Zara McDermott, an ambassador for the Princess of Wales’ ‘Shaping Us’, was present for the day’s events, and commented on Middleton’s attitude toward her projects.

“She’s one of those people who just loves to get stuck in,” McDermott told People Magazine. “She’s so personable and a real inspiration. She’s a really strong, driven woman who really wants to make a difference.”

That showed in the interactions with the girls,” the ‘Love Island’ star continued. “She will talk to a home and asks lots of questions. When you’re in a room with her, it feels like she’s one of everyone. She’s really amazing at just slotting right in so beautifully to any setting that she’s in. I’ve noticed that, and I’m kind of awe in that about her.”

“As always, she’s so incredibly engaged. This is a topic that’s so close to her heart. The whole campaign is centered around something she’s been so passionate about. It’s an absolute honor to work with her and that she wanted me here today,” McDermott added.
