The Prince and Princess of Wales visited the land of their namesake Wednesday, where the couple enjoyed themselves so much, they exclaimed they want to bring their children there next time.

The Wales in Wales

Prince William and Kate Middleton, who were in Wales to celebrate the Welsh Guards for St. David’s Day, a day of celebration in Wales, lived in the country as newlyweds in 2011 and new parents, when Prince George was born there in July 2013.

Now almost a decade later, Middleton wants to bring her three children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, to Wales to show them where she and their father began their life together.

As the royal couple participated in the ceremony — including the tradition of handing out leeks to the officers and guards, Kate recalled the joyful days of the years she spent in North Wales as a new bride while her husband was training for his helicopter pilot license as part of the Royal Air Force’s Search and Rescue Force. Prince William later went on to work for the Royal Air Force as an air and sea rescue pilot.

Bringing the whole family to Wales

Krystal Cunningham, who was at the Welsh Guards event, said that Princess Kate loves the island and that she longs to spend more time there and introduce her children to the delights of the place.

“[Kate] said she missed it,” Cunningham shared. “She’s hoping to take her children there and show them the beautiful beaches.”

Prince George and Princess Charlotte already had a chance to visit the country at least once, as the children visited the capital of Wales, Cardiff, last June as they accompanied their parents to Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Prince William’s new role

Prince William, taking over the role as colonel from his father, King Charles II, gave a short speech and said he was “honored and delighted” to step into the honored position.

“At the same time, I’m sorry that my father couldn’t be here with us here today to say farewell,” the prince continued, “but I know he would talk of his fierce pride and admiration for you all, and of his own sadness to be moving on from an appointment he held so dear since 1975.”

Cunningham recounted a moment when the Prince and Princess of Wales sang along to the Welsh national anthem.

“He was getting it right,” she said about Prince William, impressed with his pronunciation.
