Kate Middleton, mother of four and wife to the future King of the United Kingdom, Prince William, attended a reception for the England Wheelchair Rugby team, who had just won their first World Cup since 2008.

Since she took over the role as patron of the Rugby Football League last year, Middleton has been an enthusiastic supporter, which has drawn more attention to the sport. Prior to the event, she had some team members and coaches over to the palace to celebrate their 28 to 24 win over France.

Her appearance at the reception this week made a splash, where the active mom got relatable and chatted face to face with the players. The princess commented to some of the players, “I bet you’ve been smiling since your win, you’ve all got used to smiling.”

While she congratulated the team, the princess divulged some secrets about staying fit while being a mom. She opened up about being a mother, even offering up some personal stories of how she balances fitness and motherhood.

What can be attributed to Princess Kate’s enthusiasm for sport? It may have something to do with her athletic upbringing, but she revealed that it has a lot to do with being a mom.

How does Kate Middleton keep fit?

With three children and a prince to care for, the princess sets a high bar for the rest of us. You wouldn’t know it by looking at her, but the 41-year-old doesn’t hit the gym — instead the activities that come naturally while being a mom keep her fit.

She told the team anecdotal insights into the royal household. Like any mom, whenever Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, have play time, it’s an opportunity for the princess to get some exercise too.

According to the Daily Mirror, Middleton explained what keeps her so active: “It’s running around after the children — I do it all, whenever I can squeeze in exercise I do.”

The Princess keeps it real with the family

A fun fact about Princess Kate — she plays rugby with her kids. While at the reception, Kate told the Rugby team about her active home life and about the activities and sports they play.

She said, “They all love sport and Louis is mad about rugby. They are at an age where they just love running around.” You have to join them, or you won’t be able to keep up!

When not playing rugby, she has been known for other fun too. She said that sometimes she can even be found “jumping on the trampoline with my children before school.”
