The Gold House Gold Gala is a fairly new event that recognizes the efforts and achievements of Asian Pacific creators and companies. This year marked the second annual gala which honored Ke Huy Quan and Sandra Oh.

Ke Huy Quan’s award and speech

Quan has gained widespread recognition over the past year for his role as Waymond Wang in ‘Everywhere Everywhere All At Once’ which swept up awards season and even earned Quan an Oscar.

The 51-year-old actor was presented with the Leading Man Award.

“When I think of a leading man, I think of someone who is six feet tall with big muscles, good-looking, and a ladies’ man,” Quan said. “That practically screams me, right?”

“When you imagine a winner,” he said in his speech, “I don’t fit the mold, I finally realized that winners don’t always have to look the same. You can also win too, if you just believe in yourself.”

Sandra Oh’s award and speech

Oh has been a familiar name in Hollywood for years now as the actress has starred in roles such as ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Killing Eve’, ‘Arliss’, ‘The Chair’, ‘Turning Red’, etc.

The 51-year-old actress was honored with the SheHer Award for her work in advocating for gender equality and portraying characters that break away from stereotypes.

“I’ve spent my whole career trying to accomplish the name of this honor, not only for myself but for others,” Oh said in her speech. “I used to think seeing myself meant seeing myself or ourselves on screen, but it’s actually much more than that.

“I think the search for what it is to be seen is a deeply personal journey and cannot be satisfied or found by simply seeing ourselves on screen. I think true change and transformation must be initiated from that person or place because truly being seen is not limited to our eyes.”
