Keanu Reeves and his band Dogstar reunite to perform at California music festival

The Canadian actor is the band’s bass guitarist.

Keanu Reeves has dusted off his bass guitar and joined his old band, Dogstar, to perform at a music festival in Napa Valley, California.

It’s been over 20 years since the band, comprised of bass guitarist Reeves, singer and guitarist Robert Mailhouse, and drummer Bret Domrose, has performed.

“Great to be back on stage!” the band posted to their official Instagram account. “What a fantastic day we had. Thank you so much BottleRock.”

The trio played on Saturday, the second day of the festival held in the famous wine region.

Mailhouse gave fans an insider look at the behind-the-scenes action through a video clip he posted on Instagram showing the crew assembling the drum kit before the band took the stage.

Drum roll please,” the lead singer wrote in the caption, adding his gratitude to all those who have helped the band reunite for the performance. “Thanks to the fantastic crew at BottleRock and our tour manager Tj Goldstein, who is on loan from Three Dog Night, and guitar tech Bill Lanham from Tears For Fears.”

“We love you guys,” the singer wrote. “We couldn’t have done this without you. Love to Keith Sarkisian at WME and Dennis and Brant at Qprime. Most of all, to my beautiful, loving wife. This one was for you.”

Dogstar’s big comeback

It was the summer of 2022 when fans first got word that Dogstar would be making a comeback, as per an announcement from the group.

The band has written a host of new songs and has an album on deck, called ‘Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees’.

Dogstar’s last album, ‘Happy Ending’ was released in 2000.

BottleRocks’s website claims the band has “reformed and taken a great creative leap forward, establishing an entirely new path.”

Reeves commented to Billboard earlier in May that he has been longing for his Dogstar days.

“I missed playing together, I missed writing together, I missed doing shows together,” Reeves lamented. “It’s something I’ve always missed.”

“We came to a spot where we weren’t playing anymore, and I missed it,” the ‘John Wick’ star continued. “Once we started to play, and it felt good, and really positive and creative, that’s when it was like, ‘Okay, let’s make this happen.’
