Kelly Clarkson drops two new singles ahead of post-breakup album release
The singer recently announced her newest album will be released on June 23.
After recently announcing an upcoming album, Kelly Clarkson has more in store for fans. The singer dropped two new singles from her upcoming album on Friday.
The singles ‘me’ and ‘mine’ are off of her 10th LP ‘chemistry’ which is slated for release on June 23. This will be the singer’s first album since her Christmas album which was released in October 2021.
A breakup album
This will also be Clarkson’s first album since her split from Brandon Blackstock, whom she filed for divorce in June 2020. The two had a publicized court battle over Clarkson’s Montana Ranch property, which ended when Clarkson was ordered to give Blackstock 5.12 percent of the property which was almost 1 million in monetary amount.
After seven years of marriage, the two also share a seven-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter. The divorce was finalized two years later in March 2022.
Clarkson initially announced the two singles on her Instagram account. The singer posted the cover art for her upcoming album along with a teaser photo for the two singles.
“Having chemistry with someone is an incredible, and overwhelming, feeling. It’s like you have no choice in the matter. You are just drawn to each other. This can be good and bad. This album takes you down every path that chemistry could lead you down,” the American Idol winner’s Instagram post begins with
“We decided to release “mine” and “me” at the same time because I didn’t want to release just one song to represent an entire album, or relationship. There are many stages of grief and loss on this album. Each song is a different stage and emotional state,” she continues in the caption.
Empowering Lyrics
The two singles already address Clarkson’s breakup. ‘Me’ seems to address her heartbreak and coming to terms with the loss of feelings. In the bridge of the song she sings, “I bet you feel the absence of my love every night / There’s no one else, you are the reason I said goodbye.”
While ‘mine’ seems to celebrate the feeling of moving on. In the chorus, Clarkson sings, “Go ahead and break my heart that’s fine / So unkind.”
