Kevin Costner is looking past the drama of ‘Yellowstone’ and into the new world of ‘Horizon’.

Costner, 68, has given fans a sneak peek into the upcoming movie, which he will direct, produce, and also star in.

“We’re deep into the production of #HorizonFilm, and, I have to tell you, I haven’t felt this way about a movie since we were making Dances With Wolves,” Costner told fans in an Instagram post.

“Can’t wait to share it with all of you.”

Contrasting schedules between ‘Yellowstone’ and ‘Horizon’

The ‘Horizon’ sneak peek comes weeks after it was announced that ‘Yellowstone’, the modern Western drama series that stars Costner as patriarch John Dutton who runs the Yellowstone ranch, will be coming to an end after the second half of Season 5 airs in November.

The announcement came after months of speculation that there had been drama between ‘Yellowstone’ creator Taylor Sheridan and Costner regarding the filming schedule and how much time Costner was able to put into ‘Yellowstone’ while filming ‘Horizon’.

Reportedly, shooting for the latter half of Season 5 was meant to begin at the end of 2022, but scripts had not been finalized.

“Kevin’s been extremely cooperative with working with Taylor and his production company, 101 Studios. They were supposed to shoot the second chapter of Season 5 late last year, but they just didn’t have the scripts,” a source told Entertainment Tonight.

In the meantime, a new series, starring Matthew McConaughey is in the works as a direct sequel to ‘Yellowstone’, joining the existing spinoffs ‘1883′ and ‘1923′.

“‘Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from ‘1883′ to ‘Tulsa King,’ and I am confident our ‘Yellowstone’ sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” said Chris McCarthy, the president & CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios.

‘Horizon’ is Kevin Costner’s new obsession

In a recent interview with Deadline, Costner revealed the extent to which he has self-financed ‘Horizon’, which will consist of four movies, and is set in the pre- and post-American Civil War.

I’ve mortgaged 10 acres on the water in Santa Barbara where I was going to build my last house,” he explained. “But I did it without a thought. It has thrown my accountant into a f—ing conniption fit. But it’s my life, and I believe in the idea and the story.

Costner says he hopes to see ‘Horizon’ released sometime in the fall in time for the Venice Film Festival.

“I love going to Europe, and I’d like to put that out there and let people know that’s what my hope is.
