King Charles and Prince William refuse Harry’s singular request

Prince Harry had one demand if he is to attend King Charles III’s Coronation, to meet with his father beforehand — and King Charles refused.

King Charles III is reportedly too busy and won’t have time to meet with his youngest son, as per Prince Harry’s request, at his upcoming Coronation in May.

The Sussexes were already hesitant to attend the coronation, but it appears they made the conditional offer in response to Buckingham Palace’s conditional offer extended to them.

Prince Harry’s request

The king’s son asked for a sit-down summit together with his father, brother, and other members of the Royal Family to be scheduled for the week of the Coronation.

Prince Harry has been estranged from his father and the rest of the Royal Family since January 2020. After stepping away from his position as a senior royal in order to live in California with his wife Meghan Markle, he made the singular request to meet with his family, saying that the sit-down meeting was contingent on his attendance at the Coronation.

King Charles has reportedly refused on account of the week being too hectic already, and that a meeting with his son will only add to the pressure.

Not only does Charles not want to make the time, his brother, Prince William, next in line to the throne, reportedly feels that he does not owe his brother anything.

King Charles and Prince William say no

On meeting with Prince Harry, according to the Daily Beast, King Charles will be too busy that week organizing the Coronation to spend time with his estranged son.

“Charles adores Harry and wants him to be there. But he has a coronation to organize. He simply won’t have the time to organize a special meeting with Harry,” the king’s friend said.

Further, Prince Harry’s elder brother, Prince William, has no intention of apologizing to Harry on account that he did nothing wrong.

“No. What should he apologize for?” a friend of the Waleses said.

Have the Sussexes changed their minds?

Another way to look at it is, perhaps the couple wanted to have a private moment to talk things over before the big public ceremony.

A source told The Mirror that Prince Harry hasn’t changed his mind about the situation with his family.

“Harry has been very clear and his position hasn’t wavered—he isn’t going to come if he feels the atmosphere will be as toxic as it was during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and funeral,” the source said.

“He’s said he wants to reconcile with his family and it’s their call, but so far nothing has changed.”

Hopeful Harry

In an interview with Tom Bradby on ITV News to promote his tell-all memoir, ‘Spare’, a book that was one of the accelerators of the estrangement from his family, Prince Harry said that he was hopeful there could be a change within his family before the Coronation.

“There’s a lot that can happen between now and then, but you know, the door is always open, the ball is in their court. There is a lot to be discussed and I really hope they are willing to sit down and talk about it.”
