Lionsgate confirms ‘John Wick 5’ is now a reality
Fans will see the return of the world’s deadliest assassin.
‘John Wick 5′ is happening, as Lionsgate confirms the return of the world’s deadliest assassin.
The ‘John Wick’ saga starring Keanu Reeves has been remarkably successful, and fans have been eager to see him playing the lead role of the lethal assassin one more time.
After the premiere of ‘John Wick 4′ there were rumors circulating that it may be the last installment of the saga.
Until now, there had been no confirmation either way.
Lionsgate’s shareholder meeting
Now its production company, Lionsgate, has held a shareholders meeting in which it has revealed that ‘John Wick 5′ is a reality — and is already in development.
The project has been advanced by Joe Drake, one of the company’s top executives, who reminded audiences that there are other projects in progress related to the franchise.
“What is official is that ‘Ballerina’ is the first spinoff that comes out next year,” the exec said, " [and] we’re in development on three others, including ‘John Wick 5′ and including television series, ‘The Continental’, will be airing soon.”
“And so,” he continued, “we’re building out the world and when that fifth movie comes, will be organic -- will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories.”
Drake added that the John Wick franchise will have a “regular cadence” in the years to come.
Will Keanu Reeves be in ‘John Wick 5′?
It is unclear when ‘John Wick 5′ will be released in the future, and there are no further details surrounding the film, so it is unknown if Reeves will return.
The actor already warned that he would only be willing to do so in the case that he met with Chad Stahelski, the director of the series, and an idea worth returning for came up.
Stahelski himself considered that ‘John Wick 4′ had been a good way to close the saga — but also let slip that he would not mind making another.
Time will tell if he is counted on for this fifth installment.
