List of first time nominees at the 2023 Oscars

Here is a list of actors who have recently received their first Academy Award nomination.

The 95th annual Academy Awards take place this Sunday, March 12 and while there are a few familiar names among the nominees, most are being nominated for the very first time.

Some of the up-and-coming stars nominated include Ana De Armas, Stephanie Hsu, Austin Butler and Barry Keoghan among others.

Best Actress

Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn Wang in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ has earned her a myriad of awards and nominees. She is the first Malaysian actress to be nominated in this category.

Though ‘Blonde’ was not well-received, Ana de Armas shines as the iconic Marilyn Monroe.

Andrea Riseborough stars as Leslie, a single struggling mother, in the drama indie film ‘To Leslie’.

Also nominated in this category is Michelle Williams for ‘The Fabelmans’ and Cate Blachett for ‘Tár’.

Best Actor

Austin Butler stunned audiences for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the King of Rock and Roll’s biopic, ‘Elvis’.

Colin Farrell stars as the humble, yet heartbroken Pádraic Súilleabháin in ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’.

Brendan Fraser depicts the effects of grief and trauma through his character, Charlie’s, eating disorder in ‘The Whale’.

‘Aftersun’ is a coming-of-age story of a young girl and her father, Calum, played by Paul Mescal.

Bill Nighy stars as Williams, a civil servant who receives a terminal medical diagnosis in ‘Living’.

Best Supporting Actress

Hong Chau as the caring yet caustic, Liz, Charlie’s nurse and friend, in ‘The Whale’.

Kerry Condon plays the sensible and honest Siobhán Súilleabháin in ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’.

Jamie Lee Curtis as the antagonistic IRS inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdra in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.

Stephanie Hsu shows off her acting range as both Joy Wang and Jobu Tupaki, a Joy variant keen on destroying the multiverse, in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.

Also nominated in this category is Angela Bassett for Queen Ramonda in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.

Best Supporting Actor

Brendan Gleeson as Colm Doherty sets the events of ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ into motion when he abruptly ends his friendship with Pádraic.

Bryan Tyree Henry plays James Aucoin in the drama ‘Causeway’.

Barry Keoghan portrays the odd and simple-minded Dominic Kearney in ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’.

Ke Huy Quan makes an epic return to acting as Waymond Wang in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.

Also nominated in this category is Judd Hirsch for ‘The Fabelmans’.
