Lucy Hale celebrated a notable milestone on Valentine’s Day this year.

On Tuesday, the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ actress announced her first year of sobriety with a festive cake and post on Instagram. The cake had the words “1 Year!” written in yellow on top of lavender frosting, and lined with multi-colored sprinkles.

The actress also included a caption celebrating her one year of sobriety, which fell on January 2, 2023.

“Bear with me, this is an alternative Valentine’s Day post. This is a post about self-love and about the greatest thing I’ve ever done. On January 2, 2023, I celebrated one year of sobriety,” she wrote.

“While this journey has mostly been private, I felt compelled tonight to let anyone who is struggling know that you are not alone and you are loved.”

Support from friends

Many fellow celebrities poured out their support for Hale in the comment section.

“So amazing, Lucy,” said ‘Riverdale’ actress Lili Reinhart.

“I’m so proud of you sis I love you so much,” said singer Demi Lovato. “Thank you for being a part of my journey and allowing me to be a part of yours.”

Lovato has previously been open with the public about her journey to sobriety, most recently explaining she is completely sober since December of 2021.

“Love you and so proud of you,” said ‘Emily in Paris’ star Lily Collins. ‘Pretty Little Liars’ co-star Shay Mitchell also showed love by commenting with a red heart emoji.

New chapter for Hale

This isn’t the first time Hale has spoken out about quitting drinking. In 2017, the actress spoke to style publication Byrdie just before the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ series finale and explained how she planned to give up drinking and partying as the show came to an end.

“PLL was a great chapter of my life, but it’s very exciting to start over,” Hale admitted in the interview “Becoming a part of this popular show … everyone just says yes to you, so you get away with a lot, and then you make mistakes.

“I’m just always trying to surround myself with better people and be the best version of myself possible.”
