The much-anticipated biopic of popstar Madonna’s life is no longer in development with movie producer giant Universal Studios, following the Queen of Pop’s decision to embark on a world tour.

The ‘Material Girl’ Madonna herself was set to direct the biopic movie based on her life, starring Julia Garner, but now she will set off on her 12th world tour instead, as the singer recently announced.

The show, spanning New York, Paris, and London, and taking a total of 40 cities along the way, sold out almost instantly.

The star posted on Instagram to thank her fans for picking up the tickets so quickly.

“I don’t take any of this for granted,” Madonna wrote on Instagram. “I feel like the luckiest girl in the world and I’m so grateful for all of your support.”

What we know about Madonna biopic?

The film, announced in 2020, has seen two script overhauls and several scriptwriters, and will be put on the back burner for the time being. In an interview with Variety last summer, Madonna claimed the script was going well.

“I have a very long script that is really hard for me to make shorter,” the 64-year-old singer said. “I’ve been whittling away at it, but it’s like hacking off my limbs.”

When asked why she wanted to make the movie, Madonna replied simply, “I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film.”

“It was also a preemptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men. So I put my foot in the door and said: “No one’s going to tell my story, but me.’”

It’s not the first time Madonna has directed a movie. She already has two feature films to her name, ‘Filth and Wisdom,’ 2008, and ‘W.E’, 2011, which is a story about King Edward VIII’s abdication.
