Meghan McCain blasts Gwyneth Paltrow diet
Paltrow’s diet regime has garnered negative responses, particularly from McCain.
Gwyneth Paltrow recently revealed her current diet on an episode of ‘The Art of Being Well with Dr. Cole’ podcast, which has garnered a slew of negative responses. Most notably, TV personality Meghan McCain did not hold back in responding to Paltrow.
In a Daily Mail column, McCain stated that Paltrow is promoting a “starvation diet” and that the actress looks “bad, tired [and] haggard and much older than her 50 years”.
“Her life sounds like a living hell,” McCain wrote. “I rarely speak about other women’s appearances but since she’s putting herself out there, let’s talk about it.”
“Nothing about her day sounds nourishing or fulfilling,” she continued. “The laser focus on ‘wellness’ seems obsessive and, quite frankly, unwell.”
Paltrow’s diet plan
On the podcast, Paltrow explained that she liked to do a “nice intermittent fast”, which is the practice of cycling between eating and abstaining from food for particular periods of time.
Her first meal of the day occurs at noon and consists of just coffee. Lunch is a bone broth soup and dinner follows a paleolithic diet, a diet that excludes processed foods, sugar, salt and dairy.
The TikTok video of Paltrow talking about her diet raked up a couple million views, with many accusing the actress of promoting a “restrictive diet”.
On March 17, Paltrow took to her Instagram story to share her response to the backlash.
“I think it’s important for everybody to know that I was doing a podcast with my doctor, so this is a person that I’ve been working with for over two years now to deal with some chronic stuff,” Paltrow said. “I have long COVID, and the way it manifests for me is very high levels of inflammation over time.”
Promoting an unhealthy lifestyle
“This sounds horrific,” McCain said. “If what she’s selling is wellness, then I want no part of it.”
“There is a growing awareness of eating disorders in American culture,” she went on. “Paltrow is justifiably being torn by commentators, doctors and nutritionists alike for promoting a lifestyle that doesn’t provide enough calories to maintain a healthy diet.”
Registered dietician, Lauren Cadillac, also spoke out against the diet on TikTok.
“THIS IS NOT ENOUGH FOOD,” Cadillac wrote. “Bone broth is not a meal.”
